Soft washing, in one paragraph

Soft washing replaces force with chemistry. A cleaning solution is applied at low pressure, left to work on the growth for as long as the surface needs, then rinsed off with water at a pressure the material can take. Nothing is scoured, and because the organism is killed rather than knocked loose, the result lasts longer than a rinse.

The pressures we work at

A roof is cleaned at under 100 PSI, which is roughly a garden hose. Siding sits under 500. Brick and masonry get low pressure and a longer dwell. Concrete is the only surface in the residential world where high pressure genuinely belongs, and even there we use a rotary surface cleaner rather than a wand so the slab comes out even.

Where soft washing is the only correct answer

Asphalt shingle, painted wood, cedar shake, stucco, vinyl, screens, and anything with a seal or a coating that pressure would break. If a company offers to pressure wash your roof, that is not a price question. That is a different job with a different outcome.
