Black streaks are alive, and that changes the job

The dark staining running down a roof is gleocapsa magma, a cyanobacteria that feeds on the limestone filler in modern shingles. It is not dirt and it will not wash off. It spreads downward with the water, which is why the streaks run in lines and the north slope is always the worst.

The solution that kills roof algae is hard on plants, so beds under the work get covered and rinsed before, during and after. Drives and walks below get wet down first, and gutters and downspouts are flushed so nothing sits in them.

This is most of the reason a careful roof clean takes longer than people expect, and it is the part a rushed crew skips.

What we will not take on

We do not do handyman work, landscaping, painting, roof replacement or major roof repair, construction, remodeling or interior cleaning. We are an exterior cleaning company and nothing else.

We also decline any job where high pressure would create an unreasonable risk of damaging the surface, rather than doing it and hoping. A refused job is cheaper for everyone than a repaired one.

Hard water, and why glass gets purified water instead

Water in this part of Indiana is hard, and hard water dries to a spot however well the glass was washed. A water fed pole filters the water before it ever reaches the window, so there is nothing left behind to dry.
